A crucial weekend of Premier League action comes to a conclusion on Monday night as Tottenham Hotspur travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in televised action. Spurs go into the weekend still very much in the title race while Liverpool are sixth with a Champions League place in their sights.
Newcastle will continue their push for a top four finish on Sunday as they host Aston Villa at Saint James’ Park. Villa go into the game in twelfth place and realistically their only focus for the remainder of the season is to try and avoid Alex McLeish’s third relegation in four years.
Arguably the biggest game of the weekend in the English Premier League comes on Sunday at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea host Manchester United. The visitors go into the weekend level on points with Man City at the top of the table while Chelsea are fourth and need a boost just to catch third placed Spurs.
There are seven games in the Premier League on Saturday. In an earlier start, Arsenal host Blackburn with the Gunners looking to ignite their Champions League challenge. The televised game in the UK and Ireland comes in the early evening as Manchester City and their perfect home record host Fulham.
Martin O’Neill’s resurgent Sunderland show no signs of slowing down and they visit Stoke City. Desperately needing a win, Wolves travel to take on Queen’s Park Rangers who should have a new look strike force on show. Struggling at the bottom Wigan need an improvement as they host Everton – a side they haven’t beaten since 2008. Norwich City and Bolton Wanderers are both becoming hard to beat and they meet at Carrow Road on Saturday. West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City will both look for points to avoid any end of season nerves.
It’s twentieth against tenth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as Wigan Athletic host Everton at the DW Stadium. Wigan look in serious danger of relegation as they sit bottom of the table and trail fourth from bottom by five points.
Despite winning their three previous Premier League games, defeat at Everton on Tuesday night saw Manchester City retain their lead at the top of the Premier League by virtue of only goal difference. On Saturday evening they host Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.
Two of the Premier League’s bottom six sides meet at the Hawthorns on Saturday as West Bromwich Albion host Swansea City and just one point currently separates the sides.
Stoke City and Sunderland are level on points in ninth and eighth place respectively in the English Premier League table. They meet at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
While Queen’s Park Rangers have shown a dramatic improvement since Mark Hughes took charge, it’s beginning to look ominous for Wolves at the wrong end of the Premier League.
While neither Bolton Wanderers nor Norwich City scored in midweek Premier League action, they had contrasting fortunes. Norwich were well beaten at Sunderland while Bolton secured a home draw with Arsenal.
